Types of experiment

  • Laboratory – high control, artificial
  • Field – natural setting, less control
  • Natural – researcher does not manipulate IV
  • Quasi – IV is a naturally occurring difference

Statistics

Descriptive: mean, median, mode, range, SD, percentages.
Inferential: Sign test, Chi-square, Spearman’s rho, Mann-Whitney, Wilcoxon, t-tests, Pearson’s r.

Reliability vs Validity

Reliability = consistency. Validity = does it measure what it claims?
